This wikiHow teaches you view the contents of the "winmail.dat" attachment which appears on emails sent from the Microsoft Outlook desktop client. You can use various web services and mobile apps to view a winmail.dat file's contents. Typing in the email address and not letting autofil enter the address let me forward an attached pdf file correctly and not have MS Outlook convert it to winmail.dat worked for me. Many thanks for the suggestion.

I am using Microsoft Outlook for communication with buyers. I am facing some problem with my email account as i am getting email attachments with winmail.dat.txt instead of regular pdf files. My other coleagues receiving the same email with pdf attachment, while i am getting the email with winmail.dat.txt attachment.

I've found this workaround: If you Save the winmail.dat file with .pdf on the end, then you can Open that Saved file with Preview. A bit of a drag having to Save the File but this method is free, it works, and luckily I only have one emailer who uses winmai.dat. If I had heaps using it I would probably buy an App.

I use TNEF's Enough but I received a winmail.dat today that it couldn't open, but the site www.winmaildat.com could open it. That makes me suspect that there's been some kind of Microsoft update. I hate running data through a site I don't know anything about, so I hope TNEF's still being maintained.

TNEF's Enough allows Macs to read and extract files from Microsoft TNEF stream files. The files are usually received via email from Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Outlook users. You will usually receive an attachment named "winmail.dat." If someone has even sent you a message or file and all you have received is a "winmail.dat" file then you need TNEF's Enough to open it and extract the embedded file.

Knowing how to open a .dat file on Mac from an attachment will save you time. In this case, using the popular online tool winmaildat.com is the fastest way to open a DAT file on a Mac. Continue reading to know the step-by-step guide.

Receiving .doc and .jpeg files should be easy enough for most users to handle, but what if an email from a trusted source contains something more complicated, like a .zip file, a winmail.dat file, or a .rar extension?

When handling new or complicated attachment types from unknown senders, it is wise to scan the downloaded attachment with an antivirus system before using the file-specific opening programs to extract the contents of these attachments.

To stop Outlook from sending winmail.dat attachments, set your new emails to compose in HTML or Plain Text format. Also, when sending Rich Text emails to internet recipients, make sure they are converted to HTML format or Plain Text format.

The winmail.dat attachment is added to Outlook when you send an email using the Rich Text format that has text enhancements such as bolding, italics, font sizes or any other features that are available with Rich Text format. The file is attached to the email because it contains instructions on how other email clients should format the text.

Awesome! My outlook setting were all correct, HTML, but I continued to send winmail.dat instead of pdf files. This is the first site that has given a registry fix. It works. Outlook is now a useful email client again. Thank you.

Hi there, In July this year I upgraded my work laptop (HP Windows 10) and also installed Office Outlook 2019. Some of my customers (i suspect with older pcs) are experiencing not receiving the pdf of an invoice I send them, only the winmail.dat file. I have done everything you have described here, the HTML settings, tried Plain text, did the regedit, cleared the auto complete, rebooted, but the same problem persists with some of my customers. Can you please offer any more advice on this issue. Many Thanks 2ff7e9595c
